New in Research
The Lupus Alliance of America (LAA) and its affiliates are committed to supporting scientific and medical lupus research at local and national levels. One of LAA’s prime accomplishments has been to work collaboratively with the Lupus Research Institute (LRI) in its novel efforts to find better ways to treat and hopefully cure lupus (Under the Research drop down menu, please click on Lupus Research Agencies for more information). The LAA, through your generous donations, has contributed over $650,000 to various research initiatives since 2002.
At present, there is no cure for lupus. It is important to lupus patients and their families to find better treatment and medications to treat over 1.5 million lupus patients. In the last few years, more funding has been directed at lupus research through government, for profit and non-profit organizations. For example, the National Institute of Health allocated $84 million in 2008 to fund lupus-related research. After so many years of under funding and unfocused attention in the research community, these initiatives are very encouraging.
There is a considerable amount of information on the web about lupus research. Keep coming back to the LAA website to check out the latest information on research and related developments.
